About Still Life...

"Still life photography is the photography of inanimate objects purposefully arranged and lit. There’s something very satisfying about capturing something exactly as you pictured it in your mind. The items themselves, their arrangement, lighting, and camera settings are all meticulously controlled to produce the desired result." - John Watson

I'm very excited and nervous at the same time about this project...to figure and work things out. I'm hoping to go for a more abstract layout, but we will see how it turns out :)

Final pictures for the Action assignment

I decided to use this as my final image for the Action assignment. I love Brigid's expression and her dress is flowing while she is turning. I also really liked the colors and the angle that I shot this photo at.
I really liked the reflection in the water and she looks like a Ballerina. It reminds me of the quote "dance like now one is watching" because the surroundings are so simply and realistic.

Action Ideas...

Viewpoint, emphasis, and timing were important to photograph movement. We were expected to photograph movement by freezing, blurring, and panning.

The weather on the day I shot the action assigment with Brigid could not have been any better; it was an overcast day and there were tons of puddles from the rain the night before. We had tons of fun playing around and exploring different ways to capture movement.

Brigid had a very flowy dress from the 50s which we used to create "movement" by turning and jumping. I really like her body movement and the way the dress is moving with her body.

Conceptual Photography

This was by far the most intriguing assigments to photograph. I had so many ideas that I wanted to convey but in the end I settled for "captured". I spent the day with one of my best friends Caroline and we had fun experimenting with different angles and compositions.

I really liked the almost monochromatic color scheme in this picture. Yet it gives off a powerful emotion of "captured". The string can imply emotional or physical abduction.

I really love art and colors. That is why I was facinated with creating an abstract circle of colors. The colored pencils contrive the image of a rainbow.

Place

The assigment "place" was very fun to shoot, because I love the outdoors. During this assignment I was in Florida and it was fun taking photos of the beautiful area.

This is a photo that I took on the golf course where my grandfather plays. I really like this picture because it illustrates the swap looking like grounds.

This is a panorama of Johnson Park near my house. What was fun about photographing and putting the three pictures together was to see the outcome. I think the shadows and overlaps make the picture very interesting.

Portraiture and Pop Art

The objective of this assigment was to experiment with portraiture and overcoming the fear of photographing people, especially strangers.

This is one of my good friends Lindsey. I loved working with natural lighting. Her outfit was very natural which makes the picture look "environmental friendly" :)

Elements and Principles

Elements and Principles was our first real assignment. It was also the first project using the film camera, which was very exciting.

I really liked the focus on the flowers and how the background blurs. The color of the flowers are very vibrant and alive, which I love.

This is a very simply picture of a drain near my house. Yet the simplicity of it makes it so interesting and I was drawn into the lines and composition of it.

Introduction

My name is Jenna Zschaebitz. This is my first year in Digital Photography and it has been a great experience so far. Photography is a way of capturing memories. It is a way of remembering, feeling, touching ,and of loving. As Aaron Siskind said: "What you have caught on film is captured forever...it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything." There are many photographers that have inspired : Annie Libovitz, Elliot Herwit, John Shaw, and Richard Avedon. Richard Avedon has especially inspired me. His art is very abstract and creative. I love the way the hair of the model flows in this picture. Here is some of my work that was inspired by these photographers.
The little girls name is Gracy and she has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA). She looks very vulnerable and thoughtful.

The last picture is of my friend Lindsey who I use as my model. I really like that the picture is asymmetric and that she sort of blends in with her surrounding.I hope you enjoyed it :)

Portfolio

Here are 5 pictures that I chose for the Mid Term Exam...

This is the first picture I chose. It was a picture I had taken for the conceptual assignment. The really liked the shadows of the stairs and the position it was taken in.

This is the second picture I chose it was also for the conceptual assignment. I was going for a shallow depth of field. The theme is captured.
This is a picture of my friend. I really liked the position and the angle. The colors are plain and simple but they add some detail.

This picture is of a little girl named Gracie. She has JAR (Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis). I think the picture captures the vulnerable little girl at her best.

This is my last picture and it's of a drain near my house. I like all the linear aspects of it and the colors are very plain but realistic.
